Fewer than 25 guests? A half lamb for up to 20 guests is R2,800 with the chef on site. A braai master in the family books spit braai hire for the charcoal machine on its own.
Spit braai catering is a caterer cooking a whole animal or a large roast on a turning steel rod over a bed of coals at the venue, then carving it and serving it with sides. A spit braai is the South African name for a spit roast. Spit Braai Feast cooks on charcoal, not gas, and a chef stays with the spit from the first coals to the last plate.
Every menu is priced per person and covers the meat, roast potatoes in garlic, fresh bread rolls, the spit machine and charcoal, a gazebo over the serving area, chafing trays, setup, clean-up and the chef. Salads, pap, dessert and crockery are priced per guest, and extra serving staff cost R850 each per event. The full card is on spit braai prices, and the spit braai calculator works out a total for your guest count.
Halaal is available on the lamb, chicken and mixed menus, with halaal meat and dedicated equipment. Spit Braai Feast is not halaal certified; halaal spit braai sets out what that covers.
Spit Braai Feast cooks six menus, priced by the meat on the spit:
Spit braai catering runs from R116 per person for chicken to R272 for the Premium Wedding menu, with a 25-guest minimum. A lamb spit for 40 guests comes to R6,000 before salads and travel, and a chicken spit for 50 guests to R5,800.
Spit Braai Feast hires out a charcoal spit braai machine for hosts who cook the meat themselves: R1,200 to R1,500 for 24 hours, a R1,000 to R1,500 deposit, free collection or delivery from R450. Machine hire has no guest minimum. Rates, the DIY checklist and the catering comparison are on spit braai hire.
Spit Braai Feast runs every booking in-house, from the first quote to the clean-up, in four steps:
Send the date, the area and the guest count through the form or WhatsApp 067 945 5331. The written quote shows the per-head rate and the total.
Pick the meat, add salads or dessert by the head and confirm the date. The quote lists every extra.
The chef arrives four to seven hours before you eat, depending on the meat, sets up the machine and lights the coals on site.
The meat is carved at the buffet and served with the sides. The chef packs up the machine and the serving area afterwards.
A spit needs a level, open spot on lawn, paving or gravel, clear of thatch and overhanging branches. Venues and estates set their own fire rules, so the venue confirms that a charcoal fire is allowed before the date.
